Lose Value
To see how well a corporation si doing with managing their long term assest you just need to know where to look. An idea of how a firm is utiilzing long term assets can be fonud in their financila statements. A very important part of long temr assets are its carrying value, or the aprt of the prcie of an asset that hasn't expired yet. If a long etrm asset just happens to lose aprt or all of its money producnig potential before the end fo its self life than the carrying vlaue is reduced. An example of this is copyright, patent, and trademarks. The way that tangible assets loses vaule is through depreciation, the way thta natural resources lsoe value is through depletion, and the way that intangible assets loses value is through amortiztaion. When firms want issue a long term acqiusition then they must do this through capital tsock, bonds, or long term notes. Second, you should see how much money is retained frmo the on the balance sheet to see if the asset will be beneficial in the future. It's also important to detemrine if a business will have the money to fniance the asset in the future. A capital expendituer refers to the expenditure of a long term asset liek land for example.
